JUNIOR NO-GI JIU JITSU

Age-appropriate grappling training designed to build confidence, coordination in a safe environment.

Program Overview

Our Junior No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu program follows the Southpac Jiu-Jitsu Curriculum and introduces young athletes to grappling through structured, coach-led training designed specifically for junior development.

Training emphasises fundamental movement, balance, coordination, and body awareness, alongside the foundational elements of No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu. Athletes are progressively introduced to takedowns, guard work, guard passing, top control, sweeps, escapes, and basic submission concepts in a safe, controlled, and age-appropriate manner.

Sessions also develop situational awareness and controlled decision-making under pressure. Juniors learn how to apply technique with composure, work responsibly with training partners, and build confidence through problem-solving rather than force.

The program lays strong foundations for future sporting pathways while also supporting everyday physical confidence, discipline, and respect.

How Training Works at Southpac Strength

Training is delivered through structured, coach-led group sessions designed specifically for junior athletes and guided by the Southpac Junior No-Gi Curriculum.

Each session follows a consistent format focused on safety, skill development, and long-term progression. Within this framework, juniors are systematically introduced to the core elements of No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu, including takedowns, guard work, guard passing, guard retention, positional control, sweeps, back takes, escapes, and foundational submission concepts. All techniques are taught in an age-appropriate, controlled manner with a strong emphasis on safety and partner respect.

Sessions typically include:

  • Structured warm-ups to develop movement quality, coordination, and body awareness

  • Curriculum-led technical instruction with clear learning objectives

  • Drills that reinforce balance, control, positioning, and decision-making

  • Supervised positional training with defined boundaries and controlled intensity

  •

The Junior No-Gi program runs in conjunction with our Strength & Conditioning curriculum, which is periodised across four training blocks per year. This ensures technical learning on the mats is supported by age-appropriate physical development, coordination, and resilience off the mats.

Coaches actively manage the room, maintain clear behavioural and technical standards, and support each child’s individual development within the group.
