How Training Works at Southpac Strength

Training is delivered through structured, coach-led group sessions designed specifically for junior athletes and guided by the Southpac Junior No-Gi Curriculum.

Each session follows a consistent format focused on safety, skill development, and long-term progression. Within this framework, juniors are systematically introduced to the core elements of No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu, including takedowns, guard work, guard passing, guard retention, positional control, sweeps, back takes, escapes, and foundational submission concepts. All techniques are taught in an age-appropriate, controlled manner with a strong emphasis on safety and partner respect.

Sessions typically include:

  • Structured warm-ups to develop movement quality, coordination, and body awareness

  • Curriculum-led technical instruction with clear learning objectives

  • Drills that reinforce balance, control, positioning, and decision-making

  • Supervised positional training with defined boundaries and controlled intensity

  •

The Junior No-Gi program runs in conjunction with our Strength & Conditioning curriculum, which is periodised across four training blocks per year. This ensures technical learning on the mats is supported by age-appropriate physical development, coordination, and resilience off the mats.

Coaches actively manage the room, maintain clear behavioural and technical standards, and support each child’s individual development within the group.
